Welcome Back to School!
We hope your summer was filled with meaningful moments and time together. As a staff, we are eager to hear about your experiences, to welcome new families into our community, and to strengthen connections with returning families.
Meet the Teacher Night
Join us on Thursday, September 4 for Meet the Teacher Night. Families are welcome to drop in between 4:30–5:30 pm to meet your child’s teacher, visit their classroom, and hear a brief update about classroom activities, routines, and expectations.
School Council ‘Back to School Picnic'
Right after, from 5:30–6:30 pm, the School Council will host a Back to School Picnic on the lower soccer field. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, your own supper, and any favorite outdoor games or activities. It’s a great chance to connect with other Battalion Park families—we look forward to seeing you there!
Weekly Updates
To provide families with regular updates about what is happening at the school, teachers as well as the school office will be sending out a Weekly Update each Friday using SchoolMessenger. The school office update will also be available on our website. Please contact the school (battalionpark@cbe.ab.ca) or your child’s teacher if you do not receive these updates.
Commercial Messages
Due to Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), you need to subscribe online if you want to receive email or text messages on “commercial” school topics such as picture days, student fees, field trip costs, yearbooks, fun lunches/snacks and more. Please see the Subscribe to Stay Informed, for more information.
Attendance
Daily attendance is the priority for our office staff each morning and we appreciate you notifying us as soon as possible. We request that you use our school email battalionpark@cbe.ab.ca and copy the classroom teacher as your primary means of notifying the school of absences and lates. Our phone system is limited in the number of voice messages it is able to record and occasionally we are unable to accept any more messages coming into the school via a phone call. Thank you for your help and understanding.
Lates and Early Departures
All children who arrive late or need to leave early are required to go through the Core building main office to sign in or sign out. Also, please ensure the office staff know if your child will not be taking the bus as that ensures we have accurate bus attendance and do not hold up the bus looking for missing children.
Students Taking the Bus
Information about bus routes, including stop locations and pickup/drop-off times, has been emailed to families who registered.
It is important that students know their bus route letter. For younger and new students, writing the letter on your child's hand for the first week is very helpful.
Severe Allergy Notification
We have several students who experience very strong, potentially life-threatening reactions to some food or environmental allergens. While we cannot eliminate all risks, we have put procedures in place for snacks and lunch for those students with food allergens. In addition, our school staff have been instructed in the correct procedures regarding anaphylactic shock. Please remind your child(ren) not to share their food snacks or lunch with others as we are not always aware of all allergies. We are also a nut aware school.
Student Health Plans
All Student Health Plans and Student Health Emergency Response Protocols are required to be reviewed and revised annually and signed by the parent/guardian. These documents can be found on the CBE Home Page under Registration – Forms You Need. Please ensure that you complete and return these documents as soon as possible if they apply to your child.
Student Code of Conduct
To provide and promote positive learning environments and foster welcoming, caring, respectful and safe schools, the Calgary Board of Education has a system wide Student Code of Conduct. Teachers will be reviewing this document with all students in the coming week. You can use the following link to view the Student Code of Conduct or access the document through the CBE Homepage.
School Council AGM
The first School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday September 16 at 6:30 pm. It will be a hybrid in-person/Teams meeting. The in-person meeting will be held in the Learning Commons. This meeting will be our Annual General Meeting (AGM) as well as our monthly meeting. Our Agenda will be available on our website (https://bpschoolcouncil.ca/) prior to the meeting.
