Family Literacy Day 2024

Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27 across Canada to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Over the next week, leading up to Family Literacy Day on Saturday, January 27, we will be intentionally focusing on a specific area of literacy each day. On Friday, we will celebrate the end of Literacy week with a school spirit day, ‘Dress as Your Favorite Book Character’. Attached is a visual to provide you with some literacy ideas you can do with your children at home in conjuction with what we are doing at school throughout the week.

Our meetings are a great way to represent our children at the school and ensure their needs are met. Join us for school updates, information on upcoming events and to provide feedback and suggestions.

Battalion Park School Council

Lunch Recess Change for Grades 3 and 4

We have a large cohort of children at Battalion Park and as such, we have to split the children up at lunch hour to allow better access to the play spaces on our school grounds. Some students eat first then play outside, others play outside first then eat. To provide an opportunity for children to have a chance to play with many peers at school, we are making a minor mid-year adjustment to the eating and play times during our lunch break for our Grades 3 and 4 students. Starting Monday, January 22, the Grade 3 students will eat first and go out to play for the second half of lunch. The Grade 4 students will play first and eat second. We look forward to continuing to building our sense of community and belonging as children have opportunities to reconnect or develop new friendships.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year began on Monday, January 15. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before December 31, 2024. Traffic Safety Reminder

Since returning from the Winter Break, we have had numerous reports of illegal u-turns in front of the both buildings, our neighbours driveways being blocked and vehicles entering the staff parking lot for drop-off and pick-up. Our staff has regularly had to ask drivers not to stop in the bus zone in order to enable our 7 buses to drop the students off for school or pick them up after. Please follow the rules of the road, be good role models to our students and help us be good neighbours to those families who live near the school. Our children’s safety is paramount.

Student Teachers

We are excited to welcome 5 teacher candidates to Battalion Park for the Winter semester. These teacher candidates are in their final year at University and will be ready to join our professional ranks at the end of this field experience. Thank you to Mrs. Heer, Mrs. Tuttle, Ms. Pitre, Mrs. Thompson and Ms. Shuya for mentoring the newest members to our profession.
