Welcome Back to School!

We hope that the first two days have gone smoothly for you and your families, and you are settling in to the routine of school again. We are looking forward to getting to know our new families and reconnecting with our families from last year.

Meet the Teacher Night

Thursday, September 5 is ‘Meet the Teacher Night’. We invite you to drop in to the school between 5:00pm and 7:00pm to meet your child’s teacher, see their classrooms and get a brief update on classroom activities, routines and expectations. Teachers will be repeating these information sessions at 5:00pm, 5:30pm, 6:00pm and 6:30pm to enable you to get to all of your children’s teachers. This event is being held in conjunction with the School Council ‘Back to School Picnic’.

School Council ‘Back to School Picnic'

The School Council will be hosting a ‘Back to School’ Picnic on Thursday, September 5 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Please bring a blanket or some lawn chairs and some favorite outdoor activities to the lower soccer field to meet and mingle with other families from Battalion Park School. There will be food trucks onsite to purchase items or you can bring your own supper. There will also be a chance to view and order our new school spirit wear. We hope to see you there!

Weekly Updates

To provide families with regular updates about what is happening at the school, teachers as well as the school office will be sending out a Weekly Update each Friday using SchoolMessenger. The school office update will also be available on our website. Please contact the school (battalionpark@cbe.ab.ca) or your child’s teacher if you do not receive these updates.

Commercial Messages

Due to Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), you need to subscribe online if you want to receive email or text messages on “commercial” school topics such as picture days, student fees, field trip costs, yearbooks, fun lunches/snacks and more. Please see the Subscribe to Stay Informed, for more information.

Attendance

Daily attendance is the priority for our office staff each morning and we appreciate you notifying us as soon as possible. We request that you use our school email battalionpark@cbe.ab.ca and copy the classroom teacher as your primary means of notifying the school of absences and lates. Our phone system is limited in the number of voice messages it is able to record and occasionally we are unable to accept any more messages coming into the school via a phone call. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Lates and Early Departures

All children who arrive late or need to leave early are required to go through the Core building main office to sign in or sign out. Also, please ensure the office staff know if your child will not be taking the bus as that ensures we have accurate bus attendance and do not hold up the bus looking for missing children.

Student Street Safety

We are working hard to make student street safety a community priority. You can help by developing drop-off and pick-up routines with your children that promote behaviours like using crosswalks and walking to identified parking zones if you are transporting your children using a vehicle. We would like to remind parents that the Bus Zones and Staff Parking Lot are off limits for student drop-off and pick-up. In addition, please do not block our school neighbour driveways at the start and end of the day. Thank you for your support as we begin this new year on a positive note!

Severe Allergy Notification

We have several students who experience very strong, potentially life-threatening reactions to some food or environmental allergens. While we cannot eliminate all risks, we have put procedures in place for snacks and lunch for those students with food allergens. In addition, our school staff have been instructed in the correct procedures regarding anaphylactic shock. Please remind your child(ren) not to share their food snacks or lunch with others as we are not always aware of all allergies. We are also a nut aware school.

Student Health Plans

All Student Health Plans and Student Health Emergency Response Protocols are required to be reviewed and revised annually and signed by the parent/guardian. These documents can be found on the CBE Home Page under Registration – Forms You Need. Please ensure that you complete and return these documents as soon as possible if they apply to your child.

Student Code of Conduct

To provide and promote positive learning environments and foster welcoming, caring, respectful and safe schools, the Calgary Board of Education has a system wide Student Code of Conduct. Teachers will be reviewing this document with all students in the coming week. You can use the following link to view the Student Code of Conduct or access the document through the CBE Homepage.
